The Langtang Trek is a popular trekking route in Nepal, located in the Langtang National Park area, north of Kathmandu. The trek is named after the Langtang Valley, which is surrounded beautiful mountain peaks and glaciers, including highly technical Mt. Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Mt. Gang Chhenpo (6,388m), and Mt. Dorje Lakpa (6,966m). It is a moderate trek that takes around 7-10 days, however extra few days or a week if desired. The trek begins in Syabrubesi, a small town about 8 hours drive from Kathmandu, and follows the Langtang River upstream to the Langtang Valley. Along the way, trekkers pass through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo, traditional Tamang villages, and scenic high-altitude meadows. One of the highlights of the Langtang Trek is Kyanjin Gompa, a Buddhist monastery and village situated at an altitude of 3,900m. From here, trekkers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, and can also hike up to Tserko Ri (4,984m) for even better views.
Gosaikunda is a high-altitude lake located in the Langtang region of Nepal. It is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists and is believed to have been created by Lord Shiva. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is a popular destination for trekking and pilgrimage. The trek to Gosaikunda typically takes around 5-7 days, depending on the starting point and the chosen route. The most popular starting point is Dhunche, which can be reached by a 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu. From Dhunche, the trek follows a trail through forests, villages, and pastures, with occasional steep climbs and descents.
Along the way, trekkers will pass through several small villages and settlements, where they can experience the local culture and lifestyle. The trail offers stunning views of the Himalayas, including Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Manaslu. The Gosaikunda lake itself is located at an altitude of 4,380 meters (14,370 feet) and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It is believed that taking a dip in the lake during the full moon festival in August brings good luck and washes away sins.
